AMY PARKER, BOARD MEMBER
“From the Board to every team member, we live and breathe our values every day,”
“Our decision making has our purpose and values at the heart, young people are given a voice which resonates.”
For Amy Parker, joining the Home Base Board was about combining her professional expertise with her passion for giving back to the community she grew up in.
With more than 20 years’ experience in finance and leadership roles across the finance and energy sectors, she brings a wealth of knowledge to her role.
“My background is in finance, so I first joined with the intent of sharing and imparting some of my experience in financial oversight and management,” she explained.
“I hope that through this time, we have made important financial decisions that have enabled us to invest and prioritise funding to strategic objectives that contribute to our mission.”
Amy said it was a coffee with then-chair Norm McIlfatrick that sparked her involvement with the organisation.
“At first, I was a bit nervous as I had not been a director previously, but after hearing his passion I was very eager to join,” she said.
“At the time I was looking for a volunteering opportunity to give back to the community with some of my financial skills, and Colony (at the time) had values and a purpose I could closely relate to.”
One of the key moments in her time on the Board was the decision to sell the organisation’s Elizabeth Street property.
“It was a bold and significant decision at the time and one we did not take lightly as a Board,” she reflected.
“Looking back, it was definitely the right decision, and we made it at the right time.
“It has provided us with funding to get through tough times, pivot, and continue to invest in critical programs and initiatives.”
For Amy, what sets Home Base apart is its values.
“From the Board to every team member, we live and breathe them every day,” she said.
“Our decision making always has our purpose and values at the heart, young people are given a voice which resonates.”
She said the community also had a critical role to play in helping end youth homelessness in Tasmania.
“Home Base is truly committed to making a difference for the youth of Tasmania, and it starts with having a safe and secure home to base themselves from.”
“Our Board and Executive are experienced, passionate and committed to making this happen.”
