For young people finding their footing, it's often the little things, like a safe bedroom, a tidy garden, a welcoming living space that help create a sense of belonging, stability and hope.

Home Base and RACV Hobart Hotel first began working together in 2017, when RACV helped us bring people together for what was then our Corporate Christmas Lunch. Now, as that event approaches its tenth year, the relationship has grown into something much bigger.

Our Supporting Adolescent Boys Trial (SABT) is for young men and adolescent boys aged 12 to 18 who have had an experience of family, domestic and sexual violence.

Every young person deserves a place where they feel safe. A place where they can sleep without fear, finish school, dream about the future, and know someone is in their corner.

For too many young Tasmanians, that place doesn’t exist.

Across Australia, tens of thousands of children and young people aged 12-24 experience homelessness each year. Many are navigating it alone, without the support of a parent or guardian.

The theme for IWD 2026 is “Balance the Scales.” It’s a call-to-action demanding justice, safety, fairness and the dismantling of the structural barriers that still tip the scales against women and girls.

It is a day to celebrate the achievements of women and girls. To reflect on how far we’ve come. And to be honest about how far we still have to go.

One of the clearest demonstrations of the impact of psychosocial support is the Housing and Accommodation Support Initiative (HASI), a partnership between the Tasmanian Department of Health, Homes Tasmania, and Home Base.

Family and domestic violence is a deeply ingrained issue that affects our families, our communities, and the fabric of our society. In order to be able to continue delivering this critical program, we rely on partnerships with like-minded organisations who share our dedication to the health and wellbeing of our young people.

Tash supports young people on our JumpStart program. Whether they are calling to apply, currently in the program or ready to exit, Tash provides friendly services to help them navigate their rental journey. 

Everyone needs a safe and stable place to call home.  We’re here to help young Tasmanian’s build a home base.

Helping young Tasmanians into a Home Base is going to take a collective effort, no one team can do it alone and we’re proud to have partnered up with some local power houses who help us in our efforts.

We know youth homelessness is getting more complex and widespread, but we also know that this shameful problem is not hopeless - it can be fixed.

While most people don't think about Christmas until the start of December, here at Home Base the buzz begins much earlier. We’re getting ready for an even bigger event this year!
