Home Base is a participating institution in the National Redress Scheme created in response to the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse.
We have, for nearly 50 years, been committed to the protection of, and acting in the best interests of, young and vulnerable Tasmanians.
Consistent with our values, we support the role of the National Redress Scheme and are willing to play our part as a positive community response to addressing child sexual abuse in our community.
What is the National Redress Scheme?
The National Redress Scheme was established by the Australian Government. It provides support to people who experienced institutional child sexual abuse.
The scheme was created in response to recommendations by the Royal Commission and:
acknowledges that many children were sexually abused in Australian institutions,
holds institutions accountable for this abuse, and
helps people who have experienced institutional child sexual abuse gain access to counselling, a direct personal response, and a Redress payment.
The Scheme started on 1 July 2018 and runs for 10 years. Applications can be made any time before 30 June 2027.
