everyone needs a home base

At Home Base, we walk alongside young Tasmanians as they navigate life’s challenges and the moments that shape what comes next.

We support young people aged 5–25 across Tasmania with housing, wellbeing, connection, and practical support. Sometimes that means helping them stay safely at home. Sometimes it means finding somewhere stable to live. And sometimes it means simply being there while things are uncertain.

What matters most is this: we don’t do this alone, and neither do they.

what we do

Life doesn’t move in straight lines and neither does support.

We work with young people and their families through a range of programs that respond to real-life needs, including:

  • Support to find and maintain safe housing

  • Help to stay connected to school, training or work

  • Family support to strengthen relationships and safety at home

  • Practical assistance during times of instability or crisis

  • Connection to services, community and everyday essentials

Our work is flexible, relational and shaped around each young person’s goals. Not a one-size-fits-all approach.

HOW WE WORK

We walk alongside young people, not ahead of them, and not instead of them.

That means listening first. Building trust. Showing up consistently. And working with young people, families and communities to create support that actually fits real life.

We also work in partnership with schools, community organisations, government and supporters who care about creating better pathways for young Tasmanians.

Because strong outcomes come from strong relationships.

watch our story

Our new documentary shares what it really looks like to walk alongside young people in Tasmania, through the voices of our staff, partners and young people themselves.

our approach

We are grounded in respect, lived experience, and the understanding that young people are the experts in their own lives. We listen. We adapt. We learn. And we keep showing up.

“walking alongside means showing up early, staying longer, and adapting support as life changes”

what we believe

We believe every young person deserves:

  • To feel safe

  • To have stability

  • To feel connected and supported

  • To have real choices about their future

We believe in potential over circumstance.

And we believe that with the right support, every young Tasmanian is a hero in the making!

PARTNER WITH US

We work alongside organisations who want to create real impact for young Tasmanians.

HOME BASE IS A PLACE TO LAND.

For some young people, Home Base is a starting point. For others, it’s a turning point.

For all of them, it’s a place where they are seen, heard and supported without judgement.
