JOSH JONES, BOARD MEMBER.
“Seeing everyone as equally deserving, and finding ways to keep going in service of others, in the face of overwhelming difficulty – it’s inspiring!”
“We can’t tackle homelessness if we keep finding ways to see the young people experiencing it as different, separate or wholly responsible for their circumstances.”
At Home Base, our Board members bring diverse experience and a shared determination to end youth homelessness in Tasmania.
One of the people driving this mission forward, is Josh Jones, a social impact professional and passionate advocate for creating better systems of help and better outcomes for people facing disadvantage.
As the founder of the Just Be Nice Project, he has worked with organisations across the globe.
“I have maintained a lifelong commitment to improving equality of opportunity and improving systems of help for people,” he said.
“In Tasmania, I believe that Home Base is the best possible place to support young people with a safe, stable foundation to grow, dream and build a future.”
Josh is particularly proud of how Home Base empowers innovation through collaboration between its staff and Board.
“One example that comes to mind is the Jumpstart program,” he said.
“It provides rental subsidies for young people and was adapted from a program I developed in Victoria. With the support of the Board, and a financial commitment to innovation, we were able to support Jumpstart to get up and running here in Tasmania.”
“Being youth-focused sets us apart from the outset, and then the focus on really practical, human outcomes – housing, employment, education, support.
Home Base is continuously trying to ensure that the whole person is being supported, and their various needs are being met.”
Having worked across community organisations, for-profits and non-profits for over 20 years, Josh says Home Base is truly unique.
“I have not yet come across an organisation that can match Home Base for outstanding culture, mission alignment and talent,” he said.
“The expertise is deep and empathetic, the leadership is outstanding, and the ongoing commitment to the young people of Tasmania is inspiring.”
“Bucking the trend by doing what people need, and not just what government or cultural attitudes are asking for.
“Seeing everyone as equally deserving, and finding ways to keep going in service of others, in the face of overwhelming difficulty – it’s inspiring.
As Josh sees it, this spirit of togetherness and empathy is part of Home Base’s DNA.
“We can’t tackle homelessness if we keep finding ways to see the young people experiencing it as different, separate, or wholly responsible for their circumstances,” he said.
