Working together to give young renters a JumpStart

During 2023, in a Tasmanian first, we partnered with the MyState Foundation to deliver a new pilot program to help tackle Tasmania’s youth housing crisis.

Our partnership with MyState helps provide young Tasmanians with greater opportunities and two brand new share houses as part of the JumpStart Share House Program.

We wouldn’t have been able to provide this program without the help of our first corporate partner MyState Bank who invested $56,800 for the first year. This includes subsidised rent across two Share Houses and $10,000 for furniture, white goods, and linen.

The support MyState gives, offers:

  • Five young people (aged 18 – 25) access to 2 x JumpStart Share houses.

  • Subsidy assistance for each participant up to a total of $50 per week per person.

  • Set up of house including furniture and essentials.

  • Budget mentoring support throughout the year.

Not only is MyState helping financially, they’ve also offered one-on-one financial coaching for all share house residents. Together we’re proud to not just hand over a key to a house, but offer the chance to unlock good financial habits that will last a lifetime.

We have also forged a strong relationship with staff from both businesses coming together to support each other in the community. The MyState Bank team helped us set up the share houses ready for young people, they were heavily involved in our Community Christmas Lunch and also made a financial contribution that aided us in this years The Mind Games Challenge.

In June of 2024, we strengthened our partnership further and launched the inaugural Financial Wellbeing in Tasmania Report. The biannual report will provide a snapshot of the economic and social wellbeing of Tasmanians, with the purpose of shedding light on their challenges and aspirations in the current year and year ahead.

It will help all Tasmanians understand the economic and social pressures and aspirations facing Tasmanians and is crucial for business, policy makers and community groups. Together, we are committed to improving and maintaining the good financial health of Tasmanians so that we can help the community with the rising cost of living, avoid financial stress, and achieve important financial and life goals.

We know that working together with community partners, like MyState Bank, enables us to make more of a difference as combined we find more solutions and ways forward for Tasmanians.
