SOPHIE DAVIDSON - CHAIR

“I want to contribute to an organisation tackling the most significant challenges facing young Tasmanians.”

“Each year, 1,700 young Tasmanians experience homelessness and that’s not OK. The number should be zero. Home Base has what it takes to make that happen.”

Our Board members bring a wealth of experience and passion to ending youth homelessness in Tasmania.

One of the people driving change behind the scenes, is our Chair, Sophie Davidson.

Sophie Davidson has spent more than three decades working in the for-purpose sector, tackling what she describes as “wicked problems” across Australia, the Asia-Pacific, the United States and Europe.

“I’ve worked on projects from grassroots start-ups to billion-dollar multinational endeavours,” Sophie said.

Across social services, community development, education, First Nations initiatives, climate, environment, tourism and heritage, one thing has always been clear - making sure young people are supported to succeed is fundamental to achieving lasting impact.

It was this belief and a desire to refocus on her home state of Tasmania that led Sophie to join the Home Base Board.

“I want to contribute to an organisation tackling the most significant challenges facing young Tasmanians. Home Base has touched the lives of thousands of Tasmanians and built extraordinary expertise along the way. With that track record and capability, we are uniquely positioned to solve youth homelessness in Tasmania.”

“Each year, around 1,700 young Tasmanians experience homelessness. While that is a shocking statistic, we believe it is within reach to solve.”

For Sophie, the most rewarding part of her role has been the people she’s met.

“Getting to know the young people we support, the dedicated staff, and our amazing supporters has been so inspiring. When you see people come together like that around a problem, it becomes clear that the solution is well within reach.”
